We aim to ensure that each student at Castle Hill School is effectively engaged in learning through the application of the personalised curriculum. To achieve this aim we work to create an environment that is inspiring, stimulating and motivating for all our students.

We have many different  areas in school to meet the needs of all of our students.
Resources include a: Sensory Room, Sensory Pod, Rebound Therapy Room, Hydrotherapy Pool, Chill Den, Soft Play Room, Music Room and a variety of Outdoor Play Areas and equipment.

Hydrotherapy

The therapeutic benefits of immersion in a heated pool include:

  • Improving and maintaining the range of joint movement
  • Helping muscles relax
  • Helping to relieve pain
  • Reducing pressure on weight bearing joints while exercising
  • Facilitating rehabilitation.

Above all Hydrotherapy is fun! Our students are encouraged to enjoy the water whilst relaxing their bodies free from the constraints of gravity and their wheelchairs.

Soft Play

Our school has a soft play room where the students can play safely. Students are able to experience independent movement and play in a secure and safe environment. Our students learn trust and build up close relationships with the staff through active play. They also learn to interact with other children and develop turn-taking skills.

Rebound Therapy

Our rebound room has a trampoline at floor level where students experience a wide variety of movement. Students work on individual objectives, some of which are linked to physiotherapy aims, others are linked to developing communication skills.

Chill Den/ICT suite

Our ChillDen/ICT suite provides an exciting environment for our students to progress their learning. As well as containing a wide variety of appropriate books and ICT equipment the Chill Den also has extensive resources for developmental play and exploration.

Sensory room

Our Multi-Sensory Room uses light, sound and a range of specialised equipment designed to create an environment that is used for relaxation and calming. With the aid of switches it also allows our students to interact with the equipment giving the opportunity to explore cause and effect. Our Multi-Sensory Room delivers proven benefits across all age ranges and abilities.

Pod

Expanding our provision of sensory facilities within school with the sensory pod has enabled us to increase the quality and frequency of sensory experiences for all our learners. The Sensory Pod can generate a variety of multi-sensory experiences using film/visuals, sound, and vibration which will promote learning, understanding and the well-being for all our students.

Sensory Regulation room

Our Sensory Regulation room has been developed to offer further opportunities for students to explore, challenge and develop their sensory regulation.  The platform swing allows students to swing in all directions, and to position themselves in many different ways.  As they swing, staff are able to interact with them or simply to support them as they explore their physical abilities.

The sling swing also allows multi-directional swinging, whilst also providing comforting pressure as the fabric sides to  support the student.

The steamroller or “squeeze machine” promotes balance and coordination as students sit or lie on top of the rollers.  When they have explored the top of the machine, they can be encouraged to squeeze themselves through, in between the rollers.  Many students enjoy this sensation and are calmed by the deep pressure that is provided by the rollers as they work their way through the machine.
