We aim to ensure that each student at Castle Hill School is effectively engaged in learning through the application of the personalised curriculum. To achieve this aim we work to create an environment that is inspiring, stimulating and motivating for all our students.

We have many different  areas in school to meet the needs of all of our students. Resources include a: Sensory Room, Rebound Therapy Room, Hydrotherapy Pool, Sensory Garden, ICT Suite, Library, Soft Play Room, Music Room and a variety of Outdoor Play Areas and equipment .

Hydrotherapy

The therapeutic benefits of immersion in a heated pool include:

  • Improving and maintaining the range of joint movement.
  • Helping muscles relax.
  • Helping to relieve pain.
  • Reducing pressure on weight bearing joints while exercising.
  • Facilitating rehabilitation.

Above all Hydrotherapy is fun! Our students are encouraged to enjoy the water whilst relaxing their bodies free from the constraints of gravity and their wheelchairs. Our hydrotherapy area has a hoisting system to ensure safe lifting and handling.

We are also able to offer hydrotherapy to a limited group of young people who whilst they do not attend Castle Hill School have an additional need. Places are restricted to 6 and the session takes place each Friday 12.00 – 1.00 pm. We do have a waiting list for this but please feel free to contact Sally Metcalfe Family Liaison Officer on 01484 544558 option 7 or by e mail to sally.metcalfe@castlehillschool.org.uk if you would likemore information.

Soft Play

Our school has a soft play room where the students can play safely. Students are able to experience independent movement and play in a secure and safe environment. Our students learn trust and build up close relationships with the staff through active play. They also learn to interact with other children and develop turn-taking skills.

Rebound Therapy

Our rebound room has a trampoline at floor level where we encourage students to experience a wide variety of movement. Students work on individual objectives, some of which are linked to physiotherapy aims, others are linked to developing communication skills. Social development is also promoted through the use of the rebound trampoline.

Library/ICT suite

Our library/ICT suite provides an exiting environment for our students to progress their learning. As well as containing a wide variety of appropriate books and ICT equipment the library also has extensive resources for developmental play and exploration.

Food technology

Our dedicated technology room ensures that our students have access to a wide variety of appropriate equipment that helps them to develop their life skills. Our food technology room has specifically designed accessible resources such as rise and fall sinks, hobs and work benches.

Sensory room

Our Multi-Sensory Room uses light, sound and a range of specialised equipment designed to create an environment that is used for relaxation and calming. With the aid of switches it also allows our students to interact with the equipment giving the opportunity to explore cause and effect. Our Multi-Sensory Room delivers proven benefits across all age ranges and abilities.
